Am I Dying? No, You’re Just Transforming

Death Card

When the Death card comes out in a reading, most people think of a physical death. That’s why it is one of the most feared cards in the tarot. But the Death card isn’t about finality - that’s part of it. The Death card is about so much more.

The Death card is about change and transformation. It is essentially the ‘death’ of the old you and the ‘birth’ of the new you. Let me explain. Take for example you were in a toxic relationship. In the relationship, you were abused mentally, emotionally and / or physically. (Being abused in any way is not a healthy relationship. If you are being abused, please seek the help you need to leave that situation.) Then you leave that relationship. Leaving is the first step. Now we need to start the healing process of what happened in that relationship. We need to take a step back and figure out why we stayed in the relationship and why we allowed ourselves to be treated in that way. Sometimes we suffer from low self-esteem or low self-worth. Sometimes it may stem from things that happened in our childhood. Once we can take an honest look at ourselves and figure out the reason, we can take another step forward in healing that wound. Maybe we suffered from low self-worth because of things that happened in our childhood. Once we get to the root of the issue, we can start to forgive ourselves for allowing someone to treat us poorly. Forgiving yourself is a huge part of moving forward.

As you start to forgive yourself, you can begin to put up healthy boundaries. You realize that what happened is in the past. You can’t change it, but you can learn from it and move forward. And as you move forward, you will start to feel the change within yourself. It’s a matter of loving yourself more than anything or anyone. I know that might sound selfish but think about it. No one else is going to have your best interest at heart but you. Once you feel the change, if someone tries to come forward for a relationship with you and they start to treat you less than, you won’t have it! You will confidently know your worth and what you bring to the table. You will love yourself more and be able to walk away if need be. That is what I mean about the Death card. It is about transformation. Real change that happens on the inside.

The Death card is also about letting go, rebirth and renewal. When the Death card comes up for me in a reading, you will hear me say, “Something needs to end for something new to begin. Something needs to transform and change.” But when I talk about change with the Death card, it is a change from within.

The next time the Death card comes up in a reading, don’t think so much about the end of something. Think about the transformation that is taking place - the rebirth of something better. When we let go of what is no longer working, we are open to receive something better that the Divine has been waiting to give us all along.
